- Abstract
- Rwanda experienced a growing number of disasters in recent decades, causing physical, social and economic damages and losses. The best known amongst these disasters are droughts that occurred in 1989, 2000, 2005- 2006 and 2014; the devastating landslides that occurred in 1988, 2006, 2010 and 2011 mainly in the northern and western provinces; the ever increasing oods across the country, the earthquake of 2008; and the windstorms that constantly hit di erent parts of the country. It is in this context that the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee A airs has prepared the project “Development of comprehensive disaster risk pro les for enhancing disaster risk management in Rwanda” in order to analyze and assess the disaster risks of the country and by this risk knowledge development decisions, policies and strategies are appropriately risk-informed to make development sustainable.
